A roasted turkey is the simplest and you can even watch a demonstration video at butterball.com. Flavor is easy if you just treat it like duck or a rooster - Rinse the turkey thoroughly then rub with either American traditional ';Poultry seasoning'; -available in the spice isle and called just that or rub down with a garlic herb rub from your family favorites. For perfect turkey simply cook breast side down and covered for the first part then flip onto its back and remove the cover for the last 10-15 minutes to brown. The fat of the turkey is all in the back so if you cook it breast side down all the lovely juices keep the breast moist. Turkey is pretty simple to make and just like any poultry takes well to strong flavors of citrus, garlic, and herbs I have even had a turkey roasted in Red chili sauce from Peru and it was amazing. Just follow the cook times and use a meat thermometer to confirm it is done and serve with your favorite side dishes. Good Luck!I need a turkey recipe... cooking for a dominican family?
OK 20 yrs of turkey here. key to a moist bird is basing and butter unfortunately. I don't know how big your bird is but you may find the cooking times on the bird package.
1.clean bird set in your Roaster
2 You will need:
1 stick of butter
3 tsp. poultry seasoning(I use McCormick's).
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
I like to call this the moisture technique
Take the bird and gently separate the skin from the breast on both sides.
in your hand get 2 tbsp of butter and massage it into the one side do the same with the other
(I know this sounds messy but trust me it works)
Take your 1/2 seasoning, 1/2 your garlic powder and half your onion powder and do the same as you did for the butter
with the half a stick of butter left melt it and drizzle all over bird. add 3 cups water to bottom of pan.
I place mine in a 400 degree oven for 15 min then cut it down to 325 for the remainder. cooking time will vary depending on your size bird. EVERY HALF HOUR BASTE!! till done You have to be consistent with this. check bird temp to check for doneness.
im dominican and im not good with turkeys either! i think we are better at making pork and beef! my mom always cooks it with a bag..she says its makes the thing juicy!
yes it is true cooking in a bag is the best way to keep moisture
Take your un frozen turkey out the night before
season it with sazzon (color) pepper, garlic, adobo
sage, your going to season the turkey inside and out
Then get a turkey injector (you can buy at your local super
market) take the same seasoning as above mix with alittle
olive oil and apple juice pour into the injector then inject it into the turkey all over (legs breast wings etc..)Then take a couple
of pieces of butter cubes place over turkey, place turkey in bag then place in a pan put in ref. until ready to cook ..enjoy..
