I will be cooking this in a pan by itself and not in the big bird.Can anyone give me a good recipe for stuffing for turkey. Thank you.?
Try Oyster Stuffing, its to die for!
1 lb bread, including crusts (10 cups packed and cubed)
1 pint oysters, raw
4-8 tablespoons butter
1 cup celery, finely chopped
2 cups onions, chopped
1/4-1/2 cup fresh parsley, minced
1 tablespoon sage, minced
1 tablespoon thyme, minced
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper, ground
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg, freshly grated
1/8 teaspoon cloves, ground
1 cup chicken stock
2 large eggs, well beaten (optional)
preheat oven to 400, and toast the bread until golden brown on the middle rack. turn into a large bowl.
meanwhile heat butter until melted and foam subsides. add onions and celery and cook about 5 min until tender.
remove from heat and stir in the spices.
stir in the bread cubes, and drained oysters and toss well, until the stuffing is moist, but not packed together, stir in the stock and eggs. put in bird while moist, remoisten and adjust spices as necessary. if cooked in a casserole dish at 350 until heated through with a crust on the outsides, 25 to 40 min.
oyster juice may be used in place of some of the stock.Can anyone give me a good recipe for stuffing for turkey. Thank you.?
Chop a whole onion,sautee till soft add chopped celery,finely diced carrots,after all are soft add 1/2 can of chicken stock.Core and add red or green apples diced,then add 1/2 a bag of ';craisens';(dried cranberrys) a good handful of regular or golden raisens,then a couple of pouches of ';Mrs.Cubbasons'; dressing ,the reg. not cornbread or sage.stir that all around and moisten,not too much,with more chicken stock.The apples etc will add more moisture as it cooks.Cover and cook at 350 for a little less than an hour ,uncover for a while if you want it crusty on top. Good stuff!
1/2 pound bulk Italian sausage
1/4 cup butter or margarine
1/2 pound fresh mushrooms, sliced
3/4 cup chopped celery
1 medium onion, chopped
1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
6 cups unseasoned stuffing croutons or dry bread cubes
2 1/2 cups chicken broth
DIRECTIONS
In a large skillet, brown sausage; drain. Add butter, mushrooms, celery and onion; saute 2-3 minutes or until onion is tender. Stir in poultry seasoning, salt and pepper. transfer to a large bowl; add croutons and enough broth to moisten. Place in a greased 2-qt. baking dish. Cover and bake at 350 degrees F for 30 minutes. Uncover and bake 10 minutes more.
1 1/2 cups cubed whole wheat bread
3 3/4 cups cubed white bread
1 pound ground turkey sausage
1 cup chopped onion
3/4 cup chopped celery
2 1/2 teaspoons dried sage
1 1/2 teaspoons dried rosemary
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
1 Golden Delicious apple, cored and chopped
3/4 cup dried cranberries
1/3 cup minced fresh parsley
1 cooked turkey liver, finely chopped
3/4 cup turkey stock
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 350 degree F (175 degree C). Spread the white and whole wheat bread cubes in a single layer on a large baking sheet. Bake for 5 to 7 minutes in the preheated oven, or until evenly toasted. Transfer toasted bread cubes to a large bowl.
In a large skillet, cook the sausage and onions over medium heat, stirring and breaking up the lumps until evenly browned. Add the celery, sage, rosemary, and thyme; cook, stirring, for 2 minutes to blend flavors.
Pour sausage mixture over bread in bowl. Mix in chopped apples, dried cranberries, parsley, and liver. Drizzle with turkey stock and melted butter, and mix lightly. Spoon into turkey to loosely fill.
