I need a great low cal recipe for using ground turkey. Any ideas?

Untidy Samuels

Probably more widely known as Sloppy Joes, these can be made with ground beef or ground turkey. This homemade version is light years ahead of anything you can buy in an envelope or can, and really just as easy. I like to serve these with paper-thin slices of red onion.

Ingredients

1 teaspoon vegetable oil

1 lb. ground beef or ground turkey

1 medium yellow onion, peeled and chopped fine

1/2 cup best-quality ketchup

1/2 cup best-quality chili sauce

2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon coarse salt

freshly cracked black pepper

1/3 cup water

6 sesame seed topped hamburger buns, warmed

Method

Brush a skillet with oil and warm over moderate heat, 30 seconds. Add beef [or turkey] and onion and saut茅 10 minutes, stirring frequently. Add all remaining ingredients [except buns] and simmer, uncovered, 10 minutes. Spoon mixture between split buns and serve immediately.I need a great low cal recipe for using ground turkey. Any ideas?
Hooray!! I love them! And I ALWAYS use ground turkey. I tried them again recently with ground beef and didn't like them nearly as much! Thanks for awarding me ';Best Answer'; and continue to enjoy these!! Report Abuse

Without adding anything to the meat, shape them into balls and fry until cooked through.

Place 2 balls in a Pita Pocket.

Spoon some marinara sauce in and add some shredded moz cheese. Heat until cheese is melted.
I've got tons, but this is one of my favorites and it's only about 200 calories per serving:

Turkey Enchilada Pie

Servings: 6

Preparation Time: 15 min

Cooking Time: 30 min

Ingredients

1 sprays cooking spray

3/4 pound uncooked ground turkey breast

1 medium onion(s), chopped

1 tsp chili powder

3 Tbsp all-purpose flour

1 cup fat-free skim milk

4 oz canned jalapeno peppers, drained and chopped

1/2 tsp ground cumin

2 large burrito-size wheat flour tortilla(s)

3 cup tomato(es), chopped

10 Tbsp low-fat shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350掳F. Coat a large skillet with cooking spray. Heat skillet over medium heat. Place turkey, onion and chili powder in skillet and cook until turkey is browned, stirring occasionally to crumble meat, about 8 minutes. Remove turkey mixture from skillet and set aside.

Place skillet over medium-high heat and add flour. Gradually add milk, stirring with a whisk until blended. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to medium and simmer until thickened, about 2 minutes.

Remove skillet from heat; stir in turkey mixture, jalapenos and cumin.

Wrap tortillas in damp paper towels and microwave on HIGH until softened, about 15 seconds. Place 1 tortilla in bottom of a 9-inch pie plate. Spread 1/3 of turkey mixture over tortilla. Spoon 1 cup of tomato on top and sprinkle with 4 tablespoons (1/4 cup) of cheese. Repeat layers with remaining ingredients ending up with 2 tablespoons of cheese.

Cover pie plate with aluminum foil and cook until cheese melts, about 15 minutes. Let stand, covered, 2 minutes before cutting into 6 wedges.
